Joyce Marie (Watson) Robinson

Joyce Marie (Watson) Robinson, 65, of Middletown, CT, affectionately known as “Dear” by family, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024.   Born on August 21, 1958, she was the eldest of seven children born to the late Hampton Roosevelt and Letta Marie (Woolard) Watson Sr.

Joyce received her education in the Middletown Public School system and dedicated 37 years of her life to the Connecticut Valley State Hospital, retiring in 2013 from the position of Supervisor in Dietary Services Department.

A member of the Cross Street A.M.E. Zion Church.  Joyce found joy in simple pleasures.  She loved exploring consignment shops, thrift stores and tag sales. Reveling in the thrill of discovering hidden treasures.  Her heart danced to the rhythm of old school R&B music, and she delighted in sharing laughter and stories with her family. Joyce’s culinary skills were legendary, especially when it came to her mouthwatering BBQ ribs.

Joyce is survived by her cherished little sister Dawn M., of Torrington, CT; five devoted brothers Hampton R. (Avery), Monty, Robin D. (Janice), Albie R., and Macy D. (Robin) Watson, all of Middletown, CT.  She also leaves behind a large extended family, including twenty-two nieces and nephews, two aunts Mary (Stewart) Holley of Tamarac, Florida and Evelyn Pugh of Windsor, NC, numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.  Additionally, she will be deeply missed by her two special friends, Virginia Hall, and Mary Chisem and a special cousin Brenda Woolard.

Joyce was a precious gift to her family and her memory will forever be cherished.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 26th at 11:00 am at Cross Street AME Zion Church.  A burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.  Family and friends may call on Tuesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce’s Memory may be made to Cross Street AME Zion Church, 440 West Street, Middletown, CT 06457 or Middlesex Hospice Care, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT 06457.  To share memories or send condolences to the family, please visit www.doolittlefuneralservice.com.
