Michael Buckley |
MICHAEL F. BUCKELY Jr. went home to be with his Lord, Nov. 22, 2009 surrounded by his loved ones. He had lost his long battle with prostate cancer.
Michael was born in Wilmington, NC on Nov. 27, 1930 to Michael F. Buckley Sr. and Gladys Woods Buckley. He was raised with his sisters Katie, Pat and Maida in Wilmington and Boston. Michael enlisted in the Air Force in 1950, starting his 21 year career as an Air Borne Radio Operator in Germany. He had tours of duty in Raleigh, NC, Moody Field, GA, then returned to Germany a second time. Then on to Kingsley Field, OR, Vietnam, Okinawa and Mt. Horne, ID, retiring in 1971. His trip to Saigon gave him, unknown to him at the time, an Agent Orange disease that contributed to his failing health. The greatest treasures he brought home from his tour of Germany, were his wife Annelore and four little Buckleys.
After returning to Klamath Falls, then his final home in Chiloquin, OR, he worked for Cal-Gas for a few years, then finally for the Chiloquin Vector Control. His most satisfying task was doing volunteer work for his community of Chiloquin. He delighted in working fund raisers. Michael was Chiloquin's VFW Post 1058's Commander for two years during which time he assisted the Ladies in forming a Women's Auxiliary. He also worked the Sprague River Raft Races, delivered holiday food baskets and worked the Pancake Breakfasts for the VFW and Winema Grange. He found fun in holiday shopping for toys for the Foster Children's Group and Chiloquin Head Start. He donated freely to the Salvation Army, Klamath Food Bank, Friends of the Library and the Gospel Mission. His greatest weakness was a child in need. He saw to it that they received a gift or food, if he was aware of their need.
Michael was a charter member of the Klamath Master Gardeners. He was their State Representative for two years. He enjoyed sharing his "home grown" plants with friends and neighbors, such as Betty and Buzz. Betty always rewarded him with pecan pies and fudge for the holidays.
Michael had a great love for the "outdoors". His family, now seven, liked camping and fishing with Dad. Either at the Coast or Lake of the Woods. Blackberries and mushrooms were never safe if Michael or Annelore saw them first. His love of fishing often took him to the Klamath River with sons Emil and Frank and Air Force buddies, Bob Terrill and Bob Price to see who could catch the biggest fish. As his health declined his friend, Mike, would come to Michael's River to catch a big rainbow trout for Michael's supper.
Michael always enjoyed family gatherings. His five kids and their children were special to him and for him
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Katie and Pat. As well as his beloved wife, Annelore; who has been waiting for him to pick blackberries once more.
Michael is survived by his children Emil, Diane, Frank, Juanita and Sharon, Sister Maida Jordan and family and the family of Katie Moser's, all of Wilmington, N.C.
Also special friends, The Kieffer Families, Mike, Laura, Steven and Miss Evie.
A memorial service will be held at the Veterans Cemetery at Eagle Point, OR in June, when the earth is warm the sun is shining and the roses are in bloom, at Michael's request. Eternal Hills is in charge of the arrangements.
The Buckley families and Evelyn Starks would like to thank the following people and services for the wonderful care they extended Michael: The VA medical personnel, Paula Dodd, Dr. Moisa and Klamath Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, please mail a packet of your favorite flower seeds to P.O. Box 649, Chiloquin, OR 97624, for a "FOREVER GARDEN" to honor Michael's memory.
