Gilbert “Gerry” Miller, 85, of East Haddam, husband of Christian (Komp) Rikhye Miller, passed away on March 24, 2024. Born in East Haddam, he was the son of the late James and Louise (Ripin) Miller.
From the age of six, Gerry worked with his parents in their Antique Shop in East Haddam that was in business from 1934 to the present. He graduated from the University of Hartford Art School in the 1950’s and went on to teach art throughout the United States. He had a fascination with all forms of art but had a special love for the Amazon people and their art which led him to being chosen as a Shaman by the tribe he lived with for three months teaching Gerry their secrets. Gerry was also a Mushroom Mycologist finding an undiscovered mushroom on the banks of the Rio Maranon.
Along with his wife, Gerry is survived by his son, James Miller of Maryland; a stepson Evan Rikhye of Saint Croix, Virgin Island; two grandchildren and three step grandchildren.
